Classic car tour to the Isle of Wight 2017 – Our best moments

Again in 2017 we visited our Austin friends in UK. This year we choose the Isle of Wight becoming our location for one week.

After a nice trip, togehter with our German Austin friends Thorsten and Gislinde, along the costal route in the south of UK and 2 ferries we reached our cottage in the late afternoon.

At this Friday evening we met our Vice president Mike Howell for dinner in the White Mouse Inn. And again we had a very friendly welcome.

Mike invited us for a classic car ride over the isle for Sunday which was a great pleasure for us to join. More details you can read in the following chapters.

On Saturday, as well as every year, the big Beaulieu Autojumble in the  New Forest was our main target. We met some ATDC member at the club stand and bought a good collection of spare parts. Only another vintage car was not available there. But this will be changed during the next week.

On Thuesday it was garden center and antique day and we found some nice pieces.

On Wednesday it has a typical british weather with a lot of rain on our way to our club friends Richard and Jane in the northeast of London.

On this way we made a stop at Robin Lawton’s barn for checking an interesting Austin 12/6. The check was succesful and another Austin is now mine and was delivered 3 weeks later to Bavaria.

We jumped in our car, without having a chance that the sun comes out, and tried to continue our trip to Richard and Jane. We needed 3 hours longer as expecte and now we know the biggest parking place of London, the M25, very well.

At half past 7 in the evening we reached our location for the night. Richard and Jane picked us up at the pup for the planned meeting with the Austin 7 friends. With a big hello we were welcomed very warm. Everyone has known that we would come to their meeting.

This was a really nice evening and it was good to know that we would see Richard and Jane at the first weekend in june again when they come to Kirchberg in Tirol (Austria) with 40 other Austin 7 during there Europetour. But this is another story.

It was Thursday morning and the sund was back. After having breakfast we visitited Richards home and his 2 Austins standing in the garage. Then we had to say good bye because we had to reach the booked ferry back the Isle of Wight.

At the evening we had a good dinner in a Pub toghter with Thorsten and Gislinde and at friday morning we had to look back to a wonderful holiday week because we had to drive back to Germany.

To all classic car friends we met this week we have to say “Thanks for the wonderful time”. You are welcome every time you are on the way in Germany to give us a visit. Our house is still open for you.

Thanks, we will come back if time is ready for our next trip.

Silvia, Gislinde, Thorsten and Michael
